This class is for anyone who's never picked up a pen. We teach the basics, and our hope is you leave with ink flowing through your nib and the confidence to keep practicing. Tried it before? It's a great refresher with new supplies from our beginner kit.
Left-handed? You're very welcome. This class is designed with lefties in mind — we teach you to get ink flowing through your nib with confidence, whatever hand you use.
All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult to our classes.
PLEASE NOTE: Some of our classes are held at 21+ establishments, so please read the class description before purchasing.
We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes before the start time to settle in. Seating is first come, first served within the venue.

Hi! I'm Joan Dobrin, a professional calligrapher with over 30 years of experience creating custom lettering for weddings, special events, Scripture, keepsakes, and one-of-a-kind commissions. My love of calligraphy began with a single Continuing Education class, and it's been a joyful journey ever since.
Teaching is one of my greatest passions. I've shared calligraphy with students of all ages in schools, churches, libraries, community centers, Michaels, and even at the very school where I first learned the art. My students describe my classes as fun, patient, and encouraging, and I love helping beginners discover that anyone can create beautiful lettering. When I'm not teaching, you'll usually find me gardening, spending time with my little dog Buddy, or creating custom artwork in my Buffalo, New York studio. My motto is simple: "Spreading Love One Letter at a Time." I hope you'll join me for a Sip & Script workshop!
