Hi! I’m Ruth, a calligraphy and lettering artist based in San Antonio. By day, I work as an accountant, but outside of spreadsheets and numbers, creativity has always had a special place in my life. I also proudly serve as a board member for a women’s empowerment group, where I love supporting and encouraging women within my community. When I’m not lettering, you can usually find me reading, crafting, or making handmade greeting cards — usually with a coffee or tea nearby and a new creative project in mind.

My love for lettering has deep roots in my family. My dad is an avid fountain pen collector, and I still remember being young and fascinated watching him write. I was especially curious about why his first sentence with every new pen was always, “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” That phrase is commonly used by hand writers, typists, and calligraphers because it contains every letter of the alphabet. It’s a simple but effective way to test how ink flows, how evenly letters form, and how a pen performs across different strokes—almost like a full “alphabet workout” in a single sentence. That early curiosity around ink, writing, and beautiful pens quietly stayed with me and eventually became part of my own creative journey.

I love exploring different styles of calligraphy and lettering, and I especially enjoy creating pieces that feel personal, thoughtful, and unique. Whether I’m practicing new techniques, creating custom handwritten projects, or sharing the art of lettering with others, I’m always inspired by the creativity and connection that calligraphy brings. My own calligraphy journey began as a teenager when my parents gifted me my very first fountain pen. I instantly fell in love with the experience of writing with it, and that simple gift sparked a curiosity that eventually led me into the world of calligraphy and lettering. What began as a small creative interest quickly grew into a true passion, and I’ve loved every step of learning and growing in this beautiful art form. One of my favorite things about calligraphy is being able to slow down, create something meaningful by hand, and help others discover the joy of lettering for themselves. I truly love sharing the magic of this timeless art form and creating a welcoming space for creativity and learning. You can follow along with my work here: Instagram: @inkedbyruth
