Feathered Serpent Calligraphy

Hello! I'm Todd, a Sip & Script instructor and the owner of Feathered Serpent Calligraphy, where I craft hand-turned calligraphy pens and do commissioned engraving, embossing, Bar and Bat Mitzvah and wedding invitations, corporate gifts, thank-you notes, and live events.

My calligraphy journey began at age 10, when I took my first class, and my teachers were perplexed about how to guide a left-handed boy. In 2020, I discovered the pointed pen and instantly fell in love with its elegance and its flourish. Before turning to calligraphy full time, I spent about 25 years teaching in Illinois schools, including Whitney Young High School in Chicago, where I was honored with a Golden Apple Award in 2016. I'm still happy to work with left-handers and anyone who's ever been told their handwriting is a lost cause. Today I teach children and adults alike, and I keep honing my own skills along the way.

When I'm not teaching, practicing, or working on commissions, you'll find me in my woodshop turning new pens, or outdoors birdwatching.

I'm lucky to have a wonderfully supportive family: my wife of 20+ years, our son at Penn State, our daughter at VHHS, and our affectionate Mini Bernedoodle. I look forward to meeting you in class. And remember, the best questions are the ones you ask!
